In The News – March 21, 2013

Englewood Cliffs, N.J. (March 21, 2013) – Bauer Media Group, the No. 1 retail magazine seller in the country, continues to add top talent to its strong roster of editorial executives.

Jo Piazza has been named executive news director of In Touch Weekly and Life & Style Weekly (print and digital), reporting directly to Dan Wakeford, editor-in-chief of Bauer’s entertainment news titles, effective April 9.

Piazza, an accomplished gossip guru and highly acclaimed author, brings with her more than a decade of unmatched experience, strong relationships and key insight into the world of celebrity news.

In this newly created role, Piazza will lead the magazines’ news teams, managing relationships with Hollywood and overseeing all reporting and breaking-news coverage for both titles.

“Our commitment to putting out the best magazines on the newsstand starts with investing in the best talent in the industry,” Wakeford said. “Jo has proved herself an accomplished and talented journalist, and we’re excited to welcome her to our team.”

In recent months, In Touch and Life & Style have broken some of the biggest entertainment stories, including Bethenny Frankel’s divorce from Jason Hoppy and Kate Middleton’s pregnancy.

“I’m thrilled to be a part of such a talented team at In Touch and Life & Style and look forward to building on the magazines’ success as leading celebrity-news sources,” Piazza said. “Being a part of such an actively growing organization puts us at the forefront to break stories, build our digital presence and increase readership. I can’t wait to get started.”

Piazza joins Wakeford’s prestigious editorial team, including In Touch executive editor Alexis Chiu, recruited from People magazine in April 2012 to oversee In Touch’s direction, and award-winning editor Terri White, who became Life & Style’s executive editor in May 2012.

Piazza began her career at the New York Daily News’ vaunted Rush & Molloy column before launching her own celebrity gossip column, Full Disclosure. She is the author of the book Celebrity, Inc.: How Famous People Make Money, an economic case study of the Hollywood industrial complex. Piazza was most recently the senior digital editor for Current TV. She is a regular contributor to The Wall Street Journal, and her work has appeared in The New York Times, New York, Glamour, Gotham, The Daily Beast and Slate. Her first novel, Love Rehab: A Novel in 12 Steps, will be released in June.
