BAUER MEDIA GROUP USA APPOINTS JAMES HEIDENRY AS EDITORIAL DIRECTOR OF IN TOUCH, LIFE&STYLE AND CLOSER WEEKLY

Englewood Cliffs, NJ (November 14, 2017) – Bauer Media Group USA, the number one seller of magazines at retail in the country, today announces the appointment of 20 year magazine veteran James Heidenry as editorial director of its Entertainment Group, overseeing print titles In Touch, Life & Style and Closer Weekly, effective immediately.
Heidenry, who resigned from his role as editorial director of Us Weekly and OK! at American Media, Inc. (AMI) in late October after being recruited by Bauer, will report directly to Chief Executive Officer, Steven Kotok.
“I’m delighted to welcome James Heidenry to Bauer,” said Kotok, who previously worked closely with Heidenry on the launch of Maxim magazine early in their careers. “James has the vision and drive required to lead our Entertainment Group and an intuitive connection to the reader like few other editors I’ve worked with.”
Heidenry has a long history of success in the celebrity category. As editor-in-chief of Us Weekly, he cut newsstand declines by more than half in just three months. His tenure at AMI began in 2012 as editor-in-chief of Star magazine where he repositioned the title and raised its profile resulting in increased newsstand share and 40 new advertisers that year. In 2014, he added OK! magazine to the roster of titles he led and earlier this year, took the helm at Us Weekly as well. Prior to that, he held numerous executive editorial positions including editor-in-chief of Modern Luxury’s Manhattan magazine and editor of Maxim.

“I’m thrilled to be joining a thriving international company where editorial excellence and serving the reader has always been–and continues to be–its winning formula,” said Heidenry. “In Touch, Life & Style and Closer are strong, vibrant titles and I look forward to collaborating with their teams to energize these brands and grow our share of readership.”
Departing from the company is David Perel.
Kotok shared, “I’d like to thank David for his work leading Bauer’s Entertainment Group. David and his team consistently broke major celebrity news stories and he took on countless new responsibilities as he stewarded these great brands in a challenging economic environment.”
