ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, NJ (October 3, 2016) – Bauer Media Group USA, the number one seller of magazines at retail in the country, is pleased to announce the appointment of media executive Steven Kotok as President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective immediately.
He replaces President and CEO Hubert Boehle who has decided to leave after 30 years with Bauer Media. Boehle served as President since 1994 and CEO since 2005.
Kotok joins Bauer Media Group USA from product review affiliate web business The Wirecutter, where he served as President. He started his career at Dennis Publishing, launching Maxim.com and Maxim Books before being appointed President of The Week in 2007. Kotok was promoted to CEO of the company in 2010, and led the acquisition of print and digital knowledge brand Mental Floss in 2011.
Bauer Media Executive Board Member Andreas Schoo said: “Steven’s extensive magazine and digital publishing experience means he is the ideal person to lead our US operations and drive its next phase of growth. We are delighted he is bringing that knowledge and his leadership skills to Bauer at this important time for the business.”

Boehle joined parent company Bauer Media based in Hamburg, Germany in 1986 and three years later, moved to work on the company’s US operations. Boehle has been central to making Bauer Media Group USA one of the most successful publishers in the country, where it remains the number one seller of magazines at retail with brands including Woman’s World, First for Women, In Touch, Life & Style, Closer and J-14.
Boehle, who decided to leave to pursue other opportunities, said: “After 30 wonderful years with Bauer Media the time has come to try new things. It has been a privilege to work with a highly professional and passionate team who have positioned the business as a market leader. I wish them all continued success.”

Boehle will remain with the company until the end of December to ensure a smooth transition.
